The Story
Very broadly, I’m Not Mad is the story of a group of friends (really into computers and video games) a few years out of college.
In the beginning I’m Not Mad was a mix between a gag-a-day web comic and a story-based web comic. And, for some random reason I thought to make all the characters different random skin colours like on Doug or, technically, most of the people on The Simpsons. Dan and I realized that our talents did not lie in the realm of gag strips and moved on to story based strips. Our first story arc was a silly story about Christmas and how Santa needed a bit of help. (the only story where Dan was the lead writer) Our second story arc was about the main characters getting government jobs because of the crappy economy. After a computer death followed by me moving into a new house caused the strip to go on hiatus, we re-evaluated where we wanted to take the strip. We decided on going to regular skin colours and focusing completely on story. And so we started Season 2.
Season 2
Moving In: The first story arc involves Dan and Dave moving in with Min.
New Roomies: A short story arc about the trials of having new room mates.
The Deal and the Mission: The final story arc of Season 2 in which Eric and Dave get sent on a mission and Dan goes to extreme measures to beat Left 4 Dead 2.
Season 3
Back to Work: Time for Dan to actually get to work instead of playing L4D all the time.
About the world of I’m Not Mad:
I’m Not Mad takes place in a similar world as the one we live in. You may see places or things that you would recognize, but don’t let that fool you. It’s not quite the world Bugs Bunny lives in either, but let’s just say that narrativium and the Rule of Funny are stronger than the scientific laws you may be used to.
About the Mesas:
Eric is the cartoonist and lead writer. Eric has more hobbies than could possibly be healthy including photography, programming, blogging at “It’s a Binary World 2.0“, computer animation and video production, occasionally playing video games, and messing around with Linux.
Influences
Visually and content-wise Eric is influenced by xkcd, Penny Arcade, Ctrl-Alt-Del, and Sin Fest.
Tools
The character models are created and posed in Blender. Any special effects (rare) are applied in The GIMP. Then they are put into web-comic format in Inkscape. All of this is on my Fedora machine. This web comic is running on WordPress which is, in turn, running on CentOS.
